You’ve Got A Friend In Me

I’ve often said that IHC models are my favorites. They are simple, fairly durable, and usually easily upgraded. I don’t often like diesel-electrics, but I couldn’t pass by a Toy Story set. “Toy Story” has defined several generations of childhood and cinematic history, and this little piece of childhood tugged at my heartstrings.

This livery is simple but tasteful!

Many simple models have the lights, motor, and wheels/axels wired in parallel for even power distribution. Those are the first things I isolate.

I replaced the truck-mounted incandescent bulbs with LEDs mounted in the cab and rear engine body ceiling.

I often use UV hardening gel for LED fastening. The bumpy panel is a UV plant growing light block. It’s very handy for model train work.

This is shows all the wiring I added. I wove the wires in just such a way that certain ones are taught and hold the others away from moving parts. This model uses a LaisDCC capacitor. A TCS KA2 and KA4 are barely too large, and the KA-N1 isn’t enough supplementary power for this HO model.

I routed the track power and LED connections into the hood nose to save space in the rear for the capacitor.
